The resisting fascism workshop was full of white people afraid of Trump.
I don't know what I was expecting.
Not that.
What it facilitated, though,
So priceless:
Community building
Networking
Connection.
We discussed how to wield our privilege in the most effective and necessary ways. We shared tips to stay safe and mitigate risk during our small rebellions.
Brainstormed surviving a government that disallows food sovereignty, access to medicine, knowledge, power, and safety for the people.
We committed to serving resistance
People over profits
Mutual aid.
Since then, we've tilled land and raised beds for a garden, with plans to produce food for local pantries, shelters, and our friends.
We've organized a small network to distribute medication to those without insurance.
We will begin offering free workshops to teach sustainable life skills and self-sufficiency.
We don't intend to go down easy.
I have to admit, I'm excited by the motivation, the movement, and the fact that people now care in ways they didn't before.
The solidarity and class consciousness give me hope.
Honestly, this is less of a poem and more of an offer and a call
To ask
To help
To survive
"In a thick present"
Together.

awesome. I'm attending our usual bi-monthly hands-off rally tomorrow. We're growing and our voices are being heard.
Right there with you, KP; this is a beautiful window into what sounds like a really magnificent piece of community. Hoping I can find these kinds of places and people - bastions of solidarity and concern for justice in a very dark time. Thanks for sharing this!
Fascinating poem and well written
