Ground Zero
Nothing more than crumbling rubble

The heart aches knowing the possibilities have been lost,
Nothing can ever be the same again,
I’ve no idea how to heal the gaping wounds,
Or how to dull the throbbing pain.
**
Can I ever forgive you for my broken soul?
Yes, forgiving will be the easy part,
But can I ever trust in you again?
No, unfortunately I cannot give you access to my shattered heart.
**
Now the future has made itself known,
I feel you’ll learn to regret the cruelty you showed,
I made no secret of the stress you surrounded me in,
And the cloud of destruction with which you bestowed.
**
You broke my heart in an unimaginable glory ride,
Making me learn how to live without you,
And while I slowly shored up the gaping hole,
I heard you living a life I was stumbling through.
**
I’ve struggled in a way that I never dreamed possible,
But you can’t even offer an apology or two,
You pushed it aside as a mere miscommunication,
As you walked away and quietly withdrew.
**
The damage was so extreme there’s no going back,
You’ve chosen the options that suited you best,
Now you’ve reached out a hand — but the day’s too late,
This is not a simple matter to be put to rest.
**
I wish you nothing but happiness and lessons learned,
Our bond has passed over now to the next generation,
I’m so sorry for the dissolution of what once was,
Knowing reconstruction cannot be rebuilt on a broken foundation.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Exquisitely written!!! Melancholy but a new adventure since the foundation is gone!!!❤️❤️💕
Realizing that a trust once broken is almost impossible to restore, & never the same if it is. My heart aches for both of us.
Yes, it's only when it's too late that they choose to reach out. Some broken things can never be fixed. Loved your poem my friend!
This is very powerful and heartbreaking.
This is heartbreaking, yet beautifully written.
