Grey

A poem about you.

By Hannah DeasyPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Another grey day. Great!

I can’t wait to navigate my fate whilst balancing my ever fluctuating mental state

So I gyrate to placate my irate

And say ENOUGH. Choose love. Block hate.

So I

Ignore the pitter patter

Shhh the chitter chatter

Get super selective with what I feed my grey matter

(Don’t need that monkey getting any bloody fatter)

Only then do I remember the truth

That Grey is a goddess

The Universal mediator

She’ll never win a beauty prize – that’s why most people hate her

Well I rate her.

She’s oblivious anyway

She’s got a job to do – get out her way

She’s obscuring the view to shift your focus on to you

Because

Against grey, colours are brighter

She’s holding the sky as the darkness fights her

Inviting us to shine stronger to light her

So like the Sun I rose and chose to glow despite her

So I like her.

Grey reminds me of the realness of reality

I can really feel her glaring lack of clarity

(35 years old, made redundant by a charity)

Hilarity.

And whilst I’m glad to be released from the repetitive banality

It was sweet to meet my inner peace through service of humanity.

There’s a sense of satisfaction when work throws all it can at me

Lose that - I lack distraction

From the world and my insanity.
