Grendel
A monsters plight
By Mark Stigers Published about a year ago • Updated about a year ago • 1 min read

I am a descendent of Cain.
I bear the outcast mark.
I am driven insane,
by joy and those of stout heart.
I am a shadow stalker,
And a prowler of the night.
A grotesque mocker,
A creature of monstrous fright.
I attacked the mead hall.
From me none were safe.
Inhabitants I would mull.
I was the fear no one would face.
Then one day Beowulf came.
He ripped my arm away.
It was never the same.
For me, a bitter day.
My mother came to avenge me.
For the gross trophy she would fight.
No more would men be,
hunted by monsters of the night.
