Green

The colors of grief

Green was my mother’s favorite color

like the grass

and the trees

she was green like the nature we both enjoyed

sitting by a fire

roasting marshmallows

Red was my dad’s favorite color

like the van he drove me to college in

and the even older van he picked me up

from preschool in

He was red like fire

comforting, passionate, and warm

My favorite color is blue

like the ocean I love to swim in

like the old Chevy my grandma used to drive

like the tears I cry when I miss them

because they are gone too soon

These colors remind me

that they were real

that they were here

and that they watch over me now

Green like the grass and the trees

Red like fire and ladybugs and the old van I now own

Blue like the sky and the ocean

and the eyes my mother gave me

inspirational
