Gratitude For You

My mentor

I sit still and listen to the noise you serenade me with,

I feel the gentle breeze you whisper across my shoulders,

The scent of your beauty waffles upon airwaves,

As the petals of your offspring float lazily to the ground,

And the insects sing as you conduct them from above.

**

I listen to the murmur of your essence as it runs across the rocks,

Carving its might into the valley of your breasts,

A frog croaks as it calms you with its gratitude,

And an owl hoots your message in loving tones,

As your moon rises to highlight your glorious being to all.

**

I welcome your guidance although at times I struggle,

Believing you’re wrong and I am right,

You patiently issue a warning or two,

Before showing my arrogance that you are indeed the wiser,

And I fall to my knees in humble apology.

**

I ask you for what I believe I need,

If my heart is true you happily deliver,

But you scold me if I beg in greed, revenge or naivety,

And I take the call on the chin — mostly,

As I learn to live under your wisdom.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
