The Storm

There’s a moment,

There’s always a moment,

When you know

The storm is coming

There's a change

A change in the air

Whether it welcomes the day

Or builds throughout

You know it’s here

Then the first distant flash is caught from the corner of my eye

And I’m right back

At the beach

Watching the clouds roll in from offshore

To the porch

As the first drops fell

There you sat

Strong

Steady

In your chair

In the middle of the Storm

Calmly

Silently

Watching the lightening come closer

I stand inside watching you

Scared

For you

Scared

Of the storm

Until I bravely ran out

Teddy in hand

To your lap

The first lightning strikes

From my new view

I squirm

You bring me in tight

Kiss my forehead

And count

One Mississippi…

…Two Mississippi, Three Missi…

The second strike

One Mississippi…

…Two Mississippi, Thr…

The strike

The count

The smile

The comfort

The lesson

To find comfort when life is uncomfortable

To find comfort in the changing tides of life

To find comfort in the storm
