Grandma’s Apple Pie

Poetry

By Jasmine CatesPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Baby.....The way your words tap dance off your tongue, it almost taste like the memories of grandmas apple pie

I remember when she said  "Jay....if you count your blessings, things will start to add up. The sunset only rises when you set the sun to only rise. It's logic.

He can break down your walls until he drills himself all the way in. But the one mistake you do not want to make is fostering a lost spirit. It will tear down your home while sucking your smile dry. Sometimes we stand around and watch our  happiness be lynched.

I learned he who kneels in front of your temple will not always be worshipping you. He'll speak in tongues until you feel his rapture. But look behind his eyes. You'll always see the window to his sincerity. No matter how bright he shines his devotion, ask him what can he bring to the table. Because you're already on your desert. The main meal is already inside of you. Your self worth cannot be compromised, so no matter how many 5 star meals he buys - it will never add up to your dignity.

....I remember when grandpa's forever first orbited my universe.

He said "I always said when I meet her, I never want to save her. I just want her to savor her savior. Because I've been connected to a 3G network for as long as I can remember - God the father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. And every time I stumble, I count my steps until it adds up to my blessings. And when I look at you, I for once see that I did the math right.  Our hearts beat in unison. I see my future in your good mornings. I can see our symphony in your good nights. Our love makes music like the sky is falling. When our finger tips touch, my heart ignites. I love how we both look forward to pushing forward even when we're being pushed against. You're the one I wasn't expecting but surprises are like the rain. You can either let it take over your parade or dance to the rhythm of the rainbows."

......Grandma....., I finally found what you were talking about.

....Every time I get scared, every time I think about running away because I'm used to happiness being snatched -away - He reminds me, nothing will ever add up until I appreciate life's blessings. He told me I was hand picked by God for him.

No more tip toeing, our fields of cricket green grass is right in front of me. He doesn't want to climb over these walls anymore. All I have to do is open the door and my smile lies right there."

About the Creator

Jasmine Cates

I will smile even when I cry

To let the world know that I refuse to wear my hardship as a burden

But rejoice in it.

It has given me enough backbone to push

Even when being pushed against.
