Good Night

a sonnet

Good Night

He calls to me when I’m up and away

Where dark and starless space replace the sky

And if I beg enough I hope he’ll stay

Though much like how he’s here, I don’t know why

My heart will moan and groan alike the void

And reaching out a hand he says, “come see”

My feet will clamber up the steep asteroid

And then will come the ending of the scene

When I awake aside a handsome face

But see it’s not the man from last slumber

I’ll go about the days within a haze

Until the time sleep next pulls me under

So if you catch me sleeping in the light

Don’t wake me up, just wish me a goodnight
