goldenrod

(among other dalliances in a meadow)

Sometimes you can’t find any

Sometimes you’ve seen better

Sometimes you get there only to find it’s all gone or worse, died

Sometimes it’s not quite time yet

Sometimes it’s so big you think, Now what?

Sometimes the color is surprising!

Sometimes it smells bad

Sometimes it doesn’t look right or it’s not golden at all

Sometimes it’s just a bad idea

Sometime it’s perfect, the size and shape, and a healthy color but you get too carried away and lose your mind

Sometimes you get a funny crick in your neck because it’s so tall

Sometimes it never shows up so you do a crossword

Sometimes it’s there, waiting for you, but you see something nicer

Sometimes you have something else on your mind completely

Sometimes it takes too long so you go home

Sometimes you don’t realize YOU are the beautiful golden gift

Sometimes it follows you home, all along the backroads and you spot it way out in a field

Sometimes you go swimming instead

Sometimes you’re too tired so you take a nap

Sometimes you get there and think, Oh no what have I done

Sometimes you’re full of so much love the world loosens and falls away like a painted backdrop

Sometimes you fall asleep in the middle of it and wake up because it’s tickling your ear

Sometimes the light is silver and warm like a coin clutched by a hand

Sometimes the air is like cool milk and you are happy in a beautiful dream

Sometimes it’s too hot out and sweat is stinging your eyes so you close them tight

Sometimes it is all in your head, the whole meadow and the goldenrod is all in your head

The color of it is all in your head

The cooled milk is all in your head, too

How’s your head? It’s fine, I think
