Golden Autumnal Meadow

Mythic Mound Sleeping

By Wendolyn WalkerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Strolling through golden autumnal meadow

Leaves rainbow turning warm in cooling breeze

Still cling fast to strong wizened trees

Idly rest next to shaded water flow

Leisurely dangling toes in current rush

Sight turned to diminishing light

Gliding on high shadow beast brings days night

Gentle spiral toward grassland’s paintbrush

Barely echoing sparrow’s aural drum

Ground heartily rumbles peaceful greeting

Amber eyes above sinew neck scouting

Sanctuary found ideally blithesome

Serenely curls legs under hulking brawn

Tongue flicks through parted lips at ray’s dust

Stretching neck round placing head to wing trussed

Majestic eyes covered by lids drawn

Eagerly bristling from babbling bank

Graced to behold mighty winsome drake

Ears perk lids lift for curiosity sake

Nary a breath while frozen like a plank

Olive scale cover under ridge of back

Maroon wings double folded to the side

Head tilt relaxed as creature sighed

Hushed exhales return with no attack

Roused from reverie by whistled bird call

Gazing at mythic mound sleeping close by

Vanished from sight with blink of an eye

Vision’s fancy flight or truth factual
