Goin’ Down Louisiana Way
A poem and a lively song

Would love to go down Louisiana way,
way down south to New Orleans.
So I could take a streetcar named Desire
and see the colorful side of life.
To hear those sweet jazz sounds floating in the air,
walking along the cobblestones,
smelling the delights of the restaurants,
in the old French Quarter.
To have my fill of jamblaya and gumbo
and a slice or two of crawfish pie.
Would love to go down into the bayou -
where nature is one with the creatures in the swamp.
Just floating along under romantic Spanish moss,
hanging down like intricate pieces of lace,
where fireflies like little lanterns flit about,
in the hot and sultry southern night.

To experience some vodoo magic,
although you have to be aware -
of the good and bad.
Perhaps somewhere out there -
voodoo queen Madame Laveau still roams,
reciting spells in the night.
To get a feel of the history in the air,
New Orleans swing me away -
to a time when every corner held a jazz player
and my feet could do a shuffle on the cobblestones.
Perhaps I’ll hear -
sweet Louis singing jazz songs in my ears.

This piece makes New Orleans sound amazing! I've always wanted to visit. The descriptions of the food, the music, and the unique atmosphere are spot-on. It makes me wonder what it's like to experience voodoo magic. Have you ever been to a place that felt like it had a magical, almost otherworldly vibe?
