All my tales spin like ghost stories

Passed around a campfire in my mind

Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees

~

If I try hard, will there still be no glories

Will my dreams still be too deep to find

All my tales spin like ghost stories

~

How can I feel ugly in a world of beauties

How can I be frayed, from ties that bind

Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees

~

My pages, my words are weary journeys

My eyes only see the ways I've gone blind

All my tales spin like ghost stories

~

If I listen closely, can I hear my goodbyes

Echo in the smiles I’ve left behind

Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees

~

Does my heart deserve a devil’s mercies

Does my soul run with a prisoner's wind

All my tales spin like ghost stories

Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees

Villanelle

Congratulations 👏… vividly emotive, full of longing & regret. I especially like: “If I listen closely, can I hear my goodbyes Echo in the smiles I’ve left behind Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees”

  • Wooohooooo congratulations on your honourable mention! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊

What is this love that keeps burning and upsetting the apple carts everywhere, so much poetry dedicated to luv, it is still never satisfied. Really a great poem and villanelle.

I love the emotional depth here. Every line feels like it’s holding a whole story underneath it.

Loved this! The villanelle form suits your theme perfectly. Lines like “Anyone who's ever burned has lost trees” stick with you. Kinda feels like your memories are floating around like friendly ghosts. ✨
