Ghost Of You

A Poem

Ghost Of You

I fell for the ghost of you; the one in my head that made me think it was you,

the one that would want to be with me and tell me I was going to be okay,

the one that wouldn’t ignore my cries for help as helplessness and laziness,

the one that wanted me around and didn’t make me feel like a burden.

I close my eyes and think that it’s all real and I’ll open my eyes to see you.

I keep my eyes closed longer than expected as I tried to conjure up this version of you,

but it wasn’t you.

I loved the ghost of you, and it continues to haunt me every night in my dreams.
