Ghost of a Love I Once Knew

Poem

By Paul CrockerPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

He was a man I thought I'd be with for eternity.

Always assumed his flame would proudly burn for me.

Until I found the pictures he didn't want me to see.

Now this romance does nothing but haunt my memories.

It's just a ghost of a love I once knew.

Drifting between promises I that had grew.

I felt so alive in his presence, full of zing.

Waiting for him to arrive, unhesitant of what he would bring.

The gifts were worthless to what his heart contained.

Now they have more value to what has remained.

This has become a ghost of a love I once knew.

The smokey form did as the birds and flew.

I can't deny I loved him so much.

But dead things are icy cold to the touch.

Fires of hell couldn't thaw the frozen grave.

Heaven knows I've never had to be more brave.

To come face to face with the ghost of a love I once knew.

Hold my breath, nothing left but say goodbye to you.
