Get me to God's country
after Morgan Wallen
By Suze KayPublished 10 months ago • Updated 10 months ago • 1 min read

Morgan Wallen's instagram story, posted after storming out of his SNL hosting gig early this past weekend.
house with storm shutters and dead
lawn no one watered while I was gone
it seems I’m the last person on earth
who wants to have a beer with me
on the rotted porch, schödinger’s cacti
illegible beneath their spiked crowns
I tried the city on a saturday night
but it didn’t like my taste
in flags and slurs, women spreading
legs like bibles, shrink-wrapped bibles
collecting dust on bookstore shelves
no place for a God. no place for me.
out here I can get whatever I want
and it wants me back, thank God
for beer fridges and a book so big
I never had to read a part I didn’t like

A heartfelt one. Very deep description of loneliness.(or freedom)
I love the subtlety of your satire, Suze. Blink and you miss it. A book so big I never had to read a part I didn’t like says it all!
As a pastor in north central South Dakota back in the 1990s I used to comment that people would ask me what it was like to live at the far end of the earth. I would respond, "It's not the end of the earth, but you can see it from there. And do you know why it's the end of the earth? Because once you've been there you don't want or need to go anywhere else."
Sending hugs, Suze~ Beautifully written 💕
Ah, I always get so excited to see your name pop up in my notifications! This is such an interesting take and perspective. I hardly ever pay attention to SNL these days, but I saw lots of posts on social media about whatever it is that happened. Like I said, this is an fascinating take on his POV. Beautiful and lovely work as always!

That was an interesting comment he made on SNL! 😱
Suze, whenever you publish on here, I am absolutely astounded by your work. This was amazing; you have such a way with encompassing the emotional impacts of life into words. And you truly create such a visceral setting!
