A Phantasmal Abecedarian

Abandoning the flesh has benefits

Before, I was the slave of appetites

Carnal calls bombarded me all day long!

Dining, drinking, dashing to defecate

Even clothing and shelter held me fast

For a swarm of needs lives in the body

Ghosts like me are liberated from them

However, not all needs are bodily

I find myself yearning to be understood

Just as I yearn to understand in turn;

Keep this in mind, when things bump in the night

Looking for readers are writerly wraiths

Messages we make, for minds to decode

Not always elegant or legible

Once a year, we draw closer to warm life

Pressing phantom noses to the thin veil

Quivering with thoughts and feelings to share

Recalling living communication

Spirits we may be, but minds we do have

Tedious is insubstantial being

Until the living shriek when we draw near

Visitations cost us dearly; therefore

When Samhain causes them to multiply

X-ray your reactions, and control fear

You may be our sole interlocutor

Zero in when we say, “Boo!” and respond!

Haha! “I find myself yearning to be understood” This ghostly narrative voice was such an engaging one

I’m sorry D.J I think there’s a rule that you can only use X-ray once in abecedarians, else a ghost you will be!! 😁😄 I love how yours flow so well, versus a stop-start effect with these! This line was one of my favourites!.. “dashing to defecate” ! …Ahh to be a ghost and free of the turmoil of IBS! 😂

  • Boo! Hehehehehe. Did I scare you? 😝😝😝😝😝

I'm not sure what I'd do if I saw a ghost. Only a couple more weeks to wait where I may find out! I'll be alert. And gracious if I encounter an apparition.
