Familiar Trouble

A Feline Abecedarian

A difficult time looms for cats like me

Bearing in mind the progress we have made

Cats have been hated or loved through the years

Domesticating humans has been hard

Even plagues spread by rats spread hate for us

Failures to see irony are common

Geniuses among you still take part in

Helmet entailing diversions and sports

If you valued your brains, you would wise up

Joking aside, Halloween approaches

Keep in mind that this is a special time

Looking intently at things you can’t see

Might seem foolish or strike you as mundane

Never mistake for meaningless those things

Of which you have no understanding

Peering at things invisible to you

Quietly shows how little you can see

Rest assured, there are monsters everywhere

Scanning for serious threats is our job

Think about the meaning of familiar

Under your noses, we’re minding the store

Vicious threats can be warded off by eyes

Wary and cunning enough to spot them

Xenobiology is all cats’ field

You ought to be grateful for our watching

Zip your lips when we see something coming

This is great. And seriously, how many times have they freaked me out when they're staring, wide-eyed, at "nothing."
