Frozen Oceans
The day the sea froze over,
A silence draped the air,
The waves once wild, now captive,
A stillness everywhere.
The gulls forgot their calling,
No fish to dart and dive,
The ocean, once a singer,
Lay dormant, yet alive.
The ships, like ghostly figures,
Cried out with brittle masts,
For they had sailed through summers,
But now they met their last.
And in the icy stillness,
The moon hung cold and high,
The stars themselves grew anxious,
As time itself stood by.
The day the sea froze over,
The world held its breath tight,
As frost encased the waters,
And darkness swallowed light.
