FROM THE HEART / A SON’S WEDDING
Today you married your sweetheart.
This day’s filled with love and with joy.
Yet, it doesn’t seem that long ago,
You were my little baby boy.
*
I remember the day you started school.
In your blue pants, white shirt, and tie.
Excuse me while I wipe my nose –
There’s something in my eye.
*
You learned to ride your two-wheeled bike.
You skated and then played ball.
From Little League to hockey!
Oh my! You did it all.
*
I don’t know where the time has gone.
You grew up way too fast.
If I could have only slowed down time,
And made those years last – and last.
*
But you can’t put time in a bottle.
You can only look back and recall.
When I see the wonderful young man you’ve become,
I’d like to think I did it all.
*
We’ve had our share of the rough times,
But I’m glad we also had fun.
I wrote this to say how I love you,
And how proud I am of you, my son.
*
So, here we are at your wedding.
I told you I wouldn’t cry.
I’m just suffering badly from allergies –
And there’s something again in my eye.

Dear Margaret - There's always "Time in the Bottle" circa Jim Croce 60ish - You always give good heart - now I think something may be in your eye? Jay
