From Shadows to Light
Poem 1
I walked alone where shadows crept,
A hollow heart, a love unswept.
The winds they whispered tales of woe,
Of love lost to a world’s cruel blow.
The moon, though bright, seemed cold and bare,
No hand to hold, no one to care.
Each step I took, the silence grew,
A symphony of sorrow, dark and blue.
I dared not dream, for dreams betray,
They fade, they falter, they slip away.
A barren field, my heart once more,
A tide that washed up empty shore.
But then—oh then—your voice, your smile,
It pierced the dark, it bridged the miles.
Like dawn that breaks a starless night,
You painted shadows with golden light.
Your laughter bloomed where silence lay,
Your warmth dissolved my skies of gray.
With every word, with every glance,
You taught my weary heart to dance.
The love I thought had bid adieu,
Rose from ashes, fierce and true.
Where tears once fell, now rivers gleam,
You’ve turned my sorrow into a dream.
No longer lost, no longer small,
Your love, it built me, made me whole.
And now I vow, till stars depart,
To guard this flame, your gift, my heart.
For love is not a fleeting muse,
It’s a choice, a life, a truth to choose.
From shadows sprung a life so bright—
With you, my love, my endless light.
Poem 2 The Chains of Despair
In shadows deep, where whispers dwell,
A man once free began to fell.
A fleeting taste, a simple try,
Became the tether, the reason why.
The powder’s pull, the needle’s sting,
A siren's song that spirits bring.
He chased the high, the fleeting flame,
Unaware it whispered his name.
Days turned to nights, and nights to blur,
Reality lost, a constant stir.
Friends faded fast, love turned to ash,
A hollow man with a shattered past.
The mirror lied, his eyes betrayed,
A soul in torment, deeply frayed.
The dreams he held, the plans he made,
All lost within this dark charade.
The whispers grew, a haunting hymn,
The world around grew cold and grim.
A captive now, a willing slave,
Each dose another inch to the grave.
Yet in the dark, the man stood still,
But drugs, like shadows, bent his will.
Until he was no more but dust,
A soul consumed by what he’d trust.

Poem 3 Rising from the Ashes
A dawn broke bright where shadows lay,
A man awoke, resolved to say:
“No more this path, no more this fight,
I claim my life, reclaim my light.”
The chains of vice, though heavy and tight,
Began to weaken in morning’s light.
The grip of drugs, the weight, the shame,
Faced the fire of his name.
Step by step, though steep the climb,
He battled through the bounds of time.
Each tear he shed, each scar he wore,
Told stories of strength to the very core.
The world seemed vast, a daunting space,
But courage grew in every place.
He sought the help, the hands, the hearts,
To rebuild life, to heal the parts.
The laughter returned, the skies turned blue,
With every sunrise, the man renewed.
The ghosts of the past, though loud and near,
Were drowned by hope, not bound by fear.
For he had tasted both loss and gain,
And found in struggle the end of pain.
A hero born from darkest strife,
A man who took back his precious life.
In every step, his truth would be:
“I’m free at last, I’m truly me.”
Poem 4
From Darkness to Divine
In shadows deep, my soul was lost,
A heavy burden, a bitter cost.
I chased the high, the fleeting fire,
But fell each time, mired in mire.
The needle spoke, the pill would sing,
Promises made that pain would sting.
Yet in their grasp, I only found
A darker grave, a deeper bound.
I cried to the void, my spirit weak,
A voice within began to speak:
“This path you tread will steal your soul,
But I am here to make you whole.”
At first, I turned, too blind to see,
The grace of God was calling me.
Through endless nights, I fought the chains,
Each prayer I whispered soothed my pains.
His mercy reached where light was none,
And touched the heart of a broken one.
He led me out, with hands so strong,
To where my weary feet belong.
No longer bound by shame or fear,
His love restored what was once unclear.
From addict’s fall to chosen son,
The battle fought, the victory won.
Now I walk with purpose bright,
A beacon glowing in the night.
For in His arms, I’ve found my place,
A life redeemed, a boundless grace.

Poem 3: speaks of hope for that man in poem 2, I love it so much and this line ‘A man who took back his precious life‘ is inspiring Poem 4: ‘Each prayer I whispered soothed my pains’ prayer is powerful in my experience, so this line caught my attention. What a beautiful testimony written through rhyming 👏🏽🤗
The last line in the second poem really tied it all together, what a beautiful wake up call to a man that is unaware that the very thing he trusted, would lead to his untimely death. This poem was complete and very powerful, well done Michelle 👌🏽👏🏽
Poem 1 From Shadows to light •–The first four lines were beautiful, I love how you stated that even the wind was whispering tales of woe. It was like it was in harmony with the way you were feeling, especially if it was an aggressive wind; even maybe because you were feeling it… the fact of feeling it brought even more attention to the way you were feeling. Wow. •– ‘A symphony of sorrow, dark and blue‘ I liked this line because you played with the idea of feeling blue, by painting the sorrow ‘dark and blue’ very clever and original •– my goodness, you described even dreams as being unreliable. It just goes to show how much you felt betrayed and how it’s hard to trust anything. •– is that hope I am seeing emerging 😁 •– ‘For love is not a fleeting muse‘ wow I love this, it’s making me speechless, I had to read it again
