From Inside
◈
my mind is a deep dark well
my past lives fuel my thought
my fingers are but a rusty spigot
and that’s where the words get caught
some make it to the page
some are later cast aside
some are held and coddled dearly
these fluid offerings from inside
some days there’s barely a dribble
everything is parched and dry
tumbleweeds of doubt graze freely
as the sun beats down from the sky
other days the source is relentless
a deluge from a depthless tide
a slip way for the perverse and obtuse
this profane torrent from inside
the dark below me the light above
direction is purely by choice
i let it move me let it soothe me
i will renounce or i will rejoice
it is from within these murky depths
i cast my nets far and wide
hoping to catch something special
in this gentle flood from inside
the subtle current offers a clarity
a simple stillness elsewhere unfound
the depths offer quiet behind the noise
a melody behind the sound
this is all i have to give
it’s not much i must confide
but it flows freely like a country stream
soft babblings from inside
