How oft are we reminded day to day,
that our freedom is fought for paid in blood,
yet when exercised constraints array,
freedom is a concept mired in mud.
-
History abounds brimming with stories,
heroes and martyrs used, mused and abused,
dismayed at the time now oratories,
wheeled out to show misdeeds are excused.
-
When your personal freedom's dictated,
remind the dictators the words meaning,
you're free to choose no matter how hated,
issues yours despite personal leaning.
-
When freedom is challenged look to Haiti,
independence's price, present, weighty.
