“Pause for clarity.
Equalize. Recover.
Breath.”
Everything that matters occurs from your heart and travels
through your chest to the spaces between your ears.
It was supposed to be a lesson in conquering fear.
But how can you fear the sea
When you are already drowning in sky?
When holding your breath till you’re gasping for air
is nothing like holding Ache like a torrent of fire starving the soul.
We were told to have goals.
To know how far you are planning to go
in a world mapped with oyster shells and sharks
with no other sound than schools
of thought swimming in track with the mind.
And the ocean was kind
that day.
It was a bed of rainbow lights and seaweed dreams
where Loss feels weightless underwater
and hope is larger than it seems.
They mustn’t be surprised at the ease
in which I decided to fall.
Headfirst (that being the preferred direction)
breath clutched tight, with nothing to lose
when you’ve lost it all before.
Yes, it wasn’t the first time
it felt this good to dive.
