Absolution eludes me: I'm guilty
Born at the behest of a clever fool
Caught in a fearful form I did not choose
Denied a modicum of warm kindness
Excluded from all social intercourse
Frankenstein forged and then abandoned me
Genius he had, though not in moral terms
He found my ugliness disappointing
I wonder why, given his choice of tools?
Just imagine choosing parts of corpses
Knowing that all are ghastly to behold
Linking them together by occult means
Making the whole animate and alive;
Never considering for a moment
Of nasty parts, what the sum would look like!
Pride made of him a delusional dolt
Quite unprepared to nurture a fresh self
Revenge I sought, when he abandoned me
Sent many he had cherished to their graves
To tell the truth, I hated taking lives
Until I recognized my lack of one
Viewed from without, the human world does seem
Wanton, warlike and void of sympathy
Xerosis of the soul plagues all of you
You could be verdant, but are desolate
Zoos show that you think life is spectacle

Love a good abecedarian! This is freaking fantastic!
"Xerosis of the soul plagues all of you..." Wow--one of many interesting thoughts.
Oh I felt so sad for him. I wish I could give him a hug. Loved your poem!
So many excellent lines, most especially that last one. So true.
A powerful reflection on what it means to be human! Incredibly done! 💌
Very clever!!
👏👏👏 Great work D.J. Every line is carefully woven. That last line packs a punch to the gut in realization of its evident truth.
