Fox Tooth
A long term relationship dealing with a long term health condition
Sleep under a fountain of stars
Draw constellations in the flesh of the sky
Your fingernail sharp as a fox tooth
Turn to me on a bed of moss
Forget-me-nots growing from my knuckles
Tell me we will outlast the storm
Those hands sharp and tough and strong
Yet gentle as a baby bird against my hair
And I trust you here
Your eyes are with me
We are side by side
Interlaced against the weather
The electric shock of the day gone by
And now we rest under velvet dark
My ribs hurt for you, mourn for you, delight in you
You crease my thoughts with laughter
Soft, sweet flickers in the bitter landscape of my mind
We are everything, we are us
Fashioning each other out of clay
Turning and turning us over in our hands
The breadth of our life
What shall we do with it?
Tweak and hone and smooth it down
To find us under a fountain of stars
Drawing constellations in the sky.

A poem that has multiple interpretations and is difficult to describe them all. I will remember the magic of nature, the tenderness expressed in a strange way, and the hope for resilience. Very good job!
