Forget Me Not
There was once a time
when I meant something.
Maybe just for a moment.
Maybe only to you.
I don’t ask for much now.
Not answers.
Not closure.
Just a place in your memory
that doesn’t disappear.
Forget me not.
For I lived.
Every winter turns to summer.
Summer turns to cold.
I remember your voice
when it was soft.
Your hands when they stayed.
The way the light fell
when you said nothing at all.
I try not to remember,
but forgetting is worse.
It makes me feel like
I never happened.
Forget me not.
For I lived.
Every winter turns to summer.
Summer turns to cold.
I see you in flashes,
not always kind,
not always fair.
however so very
real.
We were real.
You don’t have to miss me.
Just know I was there.
And I loved.
Even if you stopped.
Forget me not.
For I lived.
Every winter turns to summer.
Summer turns to cold.
I never forgot you
not till that last breath
the breath that made me
just a memory. Forget me not.

Marie - The tender imagery you used throughout the piece really brought the emotions to life. It’s a great reminder of how fragile memories can be and how powerful they are in shaping who we are. Beautifully crafted — it’s one of those poems that stays with you long after reading. Thank you for sharing this beautiful reflection on memory and loss. How are things on your side, you good?
