Forever Mine
Call it Fate, Providence, or Deja vu, but sometimes you just know. Someone walks into your life and it's as if they've always been there.
The bustling sounds of springtime surrounded me.
I breathed in the city I love,
Not always the most pleasant of fragrances to be sure.
Oh! How I relished the sight of Midtown in bloom.
I encountered thousands of people that day,
Yet it was your smile that stopped time.
Those traitorous butterflies fluttered behind my navel.
The mischievous twinkle in your eyes stole my breath.
How wrong it felt to continue along my way!
My heart compelled me to reach for your hand,
To stop and exchange names.
I resisted,
But only just.
I acted as if it were any other ordinary day,
As I must.
That glimpse of you stayed with me throughout the morning.
Yet it failed to sustain as my imagination came alive with unanswered suppositions.
~
My soul ached from the close proximity to you,
My Fated One.
Midday arrived,
I traced my hand upon the cool, stone lion beside me.
Bracing for what the rest of the day held in store.
A deeply resonating voice spoke behind me,
And my mind suddenly stilled.
My heart beat thunderously with the utterance of those two simple syllables.
Turning towards the source.
I stood in amazement.
There you were.
Is it possible for time to stand still and speed up simultaneously?
In that moment, it did just that.
You sauntered down those stairs,
And you knew as well as I,
That my heart was inextricably yours.
Forevermore, I will experience this juxtaposition.
This bubble of happiness, passion, friendship, and laughter,
Where minutes turn to days,
Days become years,
Yet feel like mere seconds.
How fleetingly they flow along,
And still,
My soul aches for yours.
With a single smile, you leave me wanting.
You bring ascension with my every surrender.
As dawn arrives, I bask in our love.
I savor your kisses as we blissfully doze,
Our hearts and hands forever entwine.
And you are, forever mine.
