Forever in the Shadows

Written for "The Sonnet of Shadows" challenge, using the typical Petrarchan sonnet rhyme scheme.

***

Your fingertips stroking my cheeks, my neck.

They’re gently running down my trembling arm.

The storm. The quiet. The thunder. The calm.

Your warmth flows through me as a soothing beck.

I shake. I doubt. I freeze. I hope. A peck.

Alluring. Feather-light brush on my palm.

Impossible. Timidly sighing psalms,

praying to raise my too-soon sunken wreck.

***

Freezing-cold northern gale took you away.

Bitter acrid tears roll down my visage.

The final warmth now exiled from my heart.

Forehead still pressed against stone cold and grey.

Is this now my life, my home and refuge?

Six feet eternally keep us apart.
