Forest of Sorrow

I'm haunted

Once thriving and lush and green

Dancing in the winds of spring

April's showers bring growth and joy

Roots singing in hydrated bliss

Birds nestled way up high

Hiding away in a strong embrace

While their coverage is full bodied

They have no fear

Until...

Soil now dried and hard

Roots withered with crying pleas

Spring no longer creates dance numbers

And the rain threatens to drown

The last leaves fall along a path of no return

That was the last thread tethering it all

If a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

No...

It is simply an ever rising statistic
