They close their tired eyes, they rest their weary heads
For the past 13 hours they’ve dreamt of their beds
They must try and cherish this few hours sleep
There’s a long shift ahead, and a schedule to keep
They’re all so dog tired, there’s too much to do
They’ve got to keep going, for me and for you
The pay is not great, the hours are many
Rarely get days off, they’re lucky if any
There’s no time for thinking how sad their days been
There’s no time to recount, the horrors they’ve seen
This job that they chose was for caring you know
Right now it will test how far they can go
The fear and despair, the right ppe
To get the right help, the things that they need
It shouldn’t be a thought, in their overworked minds
These shouldn’t be things that they need to find
But yet, there they are “just doing their jobs”
Donning their gloves and sometimes their clogs
It’s time we stood up, demanded better for them
It’s time that we thank them again and again
We thank you for being there when danger is hurled
We thank you health workers all over the world ❤️
