For My Daughter

Do you remember when you were a little girl?

We used to sing songs together,

And I would tie pigtails in your beautiful blonde hair,

We shared happy times and painful times,

But we always remained close to each other,

And with that closeness, we grew strong together,

Today,

You are no longer that little girl,

You are grown up,

With two beautiful children of your own,

Parenting is one of life's greatest treasures,

But it comes with its difficulties,

pain, heartbreak, and struggles;

You have already had your fair share,

I've seen the pain in your eyes,

When you have been struggling in silence,

And, I've heard the tears you have cried,

When things have been tough,

When you feel that you're not doing your best,

I've seen you struggle as a single parent,

Feeling lonely,

Having nowhere and nobody to turn to,

Please remember this;

You are one of the world's greatest treasures,

As a daughter to me,

And, as a parent to your children,

Your children have a wonderful mum who will

go to the end of the world and back to make

sure they have all the love that they need;

Though you don't have to struggle through the painful

days, alone,

I will be there;

For both you and your children,

To help you through the bad times,

And to share in those smiles that the good times

in parenting bring;

Despite having grown up,

You are still my beautiful daughter,

And you are a beautiful mum,

Though, sometimes,

Whether we are parents or not,

We still need our mum,

And your mum still needs you,

I am proud of you,

My beautiful daughter,

Please remember that while you are a parent yourself,

You have every right in the world to take a break;

Never be afraid to ask me for help when you need it,

Be who you are;

Take the time to enjoy your own life,

Without feeling guilty for being you.
