I would like to thank all the birds I’ve met for showing me their colours. it is taking me decades to find mine, then to understand them, and then to wear them on my rump and coverts without thought.
I am surprised again and again by how little attention they pay to their own brilliance, as if it’s normal to be that many kinds of light in one little body.
especially yellow. I am only just finding my yellow now and figuring out where it sits on me - first it was my eyeshadow, then my clothes, then my hair, now somewhere inside me.
but there you are, brave and green. as if you knew the trees wouldn’t mind sharing. as if you knew the sea was part of you. maybe I am part of everything. maybe I don’t have to choose. if we are made from the same stuff as rainbows, why just be blue.
