Flowers In the Sill

Lines In The Sand

I drew a line in the sand today

took a step and just crossed on over

Grabbed some flowers the food bank gave away

on the corner of Cleveland and Dover

I placed them in my window sill

and pulled the drapes to let the sun in

Put on a sweater to cut the chill

and some tunes by Don Mclean

In that moment I was completely covered in warmth

a momentary peace, before the backlash

Cause no one likes a pleaser reborn

left to wade in their own aftermath

It may take some effort protecting this line

and keeping myself on the right side

I guess it's like most things, depending on time

either way now, I know, I'm alright

Sometimes we just gotta do more than toe the line. Great poem Kelli

  • Whether crossing the line or not, we do what we gotta do.

I love the imagery in this and the softness woven throughout. Wonderful poem!
