Flight Path

An Ekphrastic Sonnet

By D. J. ReddallPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Artem Chebokah, "Continuation of the Dream"

Perspectival contingency, you see

Finds an entire world in one brief word

Or in a coffee cup, a roiling sea

Point-of-view shapes and defines the world

While we fly over this potent idea

We might peer suspiciously at its roots

The better to produce aporia

For the health of trees is shown by fruits

If meaning depends upon point-of-view

From what point-of-view is that claim not true?

If no such perspective exists, who knew?

Some truths are not changed by one’s point-of-view!

Surreal dreams do have enchanting power

But the petal is not the whole flower

Sonnet

I agree with others that the last two lines are excellent! But I also really liked the first stanza! Especially “Finds an entire world in one brief word Or in a coffee cup, a roiling sea”

Yep, those last two lines. Always philosophical, D.J. but this has a certain depth to it and that picture is awesome.
