Deep Hunger

The stars in the sky shine
Like porch lights in heaven
A reminder of an easier time
*
Playgrounds and street lights
Skinned knees and bright smiles
A comfort, heartfelt, in the night
*
Soft, tender moments
That carved who we’d become
Gleaning deeper than any remnants
*
Creating the canvas
A lifetime would reveal
In the short span of time that is granted

Interesting!!!
So beautiful, Kelli <3
I feel this is still hopeful…and I needed that. Really like the nostalgic elements of your piece too, Kelli. Superb job at capturing those thoughts and feelings. 🙂
Lying in the grass in the field behind our house right on the edge of town where few lights could interfere, or even in our front yard, identifying what constellations we could, walking home from an evening of collections for my paper route, seeing the stars that looked like one of mom's bread boards poised right over Tim Spaniol's house (one of my classmates & friends), as though getting ready to give him a whack (never knew him to do anything that would be deserving of a good whack other than a playful one offered in friendship). Yeah, those memories are sweet & blessedly continue to inform me today.
LIfe is a lovely, woven web of beautiful moments indeed. Really lovely haikus, Kelli.
