Five Legs

Family Ties on the Edge

We are a creature on the edge of the abyss -

Five legs, three hearts, one racing mind on a mountain path...

and each corner is a minefield.

Every step a negotiation -

Comfort or wellness?

Safety vs fear -

the bonds that bite and tear have no empathy.

We stand or fall together and I with white knuckles,

Bloody palms.

I hold the safety line.

There is no way back -

the road is slick and narrow,

falls like stone in black water,

goes in hurtling steps to the inky future.

If the road tilts now you are lost -

and bones will break -

five legs will crack and bend,

skin will tear and tendons will pop.

So the question is what's worse?

The journey, or the drop?
