Yesterday
I could have sworn
So clearly seen that I cannot but mourn
Those first fast-falling flakes that adorn
The trees no more
And my fondest wishes scorn.

My first thought was to play
When I saw those falling fractals yesterday
But all too soon they've gone away
Much as I wish that they could stay
Sadly, them I could not sway
To wait with me until today
But in earnest shall I pray
That I'll see them again tomorrow,
If not today.

I did not see the snow today,
As it fell in slow, happy puffs
As my breath before me puffed
I did not see the snow this morning,
Nor yet again as I went walking.
But I know it's hiding there
So, I cannot help but stare
Waiting
Waiting
For the darkening of the sky
For the puffy fractals to fly
For the crunch of fresh-fallen white
On a chill December night

Joyfully describes in simple terms the joy and wonder of snow
Your love of the changing season comes through so powerfully
Love the imagery your words create about the snow. Such a beautiful poem. ❄️🤍
Oh I especially loved the idea of the snow hiding! Such a beautiful poem, Alex aka the Shakespeare of our generation!
I love this Mr. McEvoy!! It made me smile as I imagined the imagery you painted, how I do love a good snowfall. I also love the change in poetic style, well done with the rhyme scheme!!
Bravo, sir. This is sublime. Puffy fractals is such a great phrase. I love the wistfulness and forlorn feeling this makes me feel. It's just wonderful, Alex!
