TANKA “A short poem — Japanese poem — word to describe a short song. 5 lines, syllables 5, 7, 5, 7, 7”

All Saints Day was called

All Hallowmas Day — Saints Day

Night before was called

All Hallows Eve, with bonfires

Costumes worn to ward off ghosts

****

FIBONACCI “15 lines, 2 parts. Words per line — 1–1–2–3–5–8–13–21”

1st try… Just off the top… hoping to improve!

Halloween

Legend

Ancient Celtic

Festival of Samhain

Samhainophobia is fear of Halloween

Light bonfires, wear costumes to ward off ghosts

Witch comes from old English wicce, meaning “wise woman” Wiccan were highly respected

Jack OLanterns named after a stingy man named Jack who tricked the devil several times Not allowed into heaven or hell

Condemned to wander earth waving lantern to lead people away from their paths

The first Jack OLanterns were made from turnips

Ancient Celtic festival of Samhain

We carve pumpkins

In costumes

Hallows

Eves

Sonnet… “Poem of 14 lines, 10 syllables per line and rhyme, often we know from Shakespeare and they tend to be love poems.”

Mine is not totally accurate but you will get the idea

Something special that happens is young love

First love occurs at any age my Dove

Sometimes they come together and work out

The ones that don’t is what this is about

Please do not jeer or cheer, number three here

Young first love for fifteen years with some fears

Drinking, drugging happened with lots of tears

Number two was raising children and work

Lots in common, that wasn’t just a quirk

Was fourteen years together when it ends

Number three, was an unplanned match that bends

Love can happen when planning to be friends

Twenty years soon, loving him till the end

****

Abstract, or Sound or Nonsense verse… “It’s more about how sounds, rhymes, and textures evoke emotions than about the actual meanings of words.”

Sports, not cohorts, torts, or shorts

Drafts, not crafts, rafts, or laughs

Football Polamalo, Eeksqueek McGeekbeck or something of the sort

Say Caleb and Robin when going to court and building a fort.

Twiddle Dee and Tweedle Dumb went up this hill and that. Do you know Dee or Dumb just sat. Playing in a hard hat. Sprat, fat, my Lord those cats are a brat. I’m only using this format one day Mat a tat tat.

****

Diminishing verse poem “Remove the first letter(s) in the end word in each line. No more direction than that.”

Grandchildren are those to whom I can relate

I tell their parents when dropping them off to please don’t be late

Brynn is four and she is so smart

She goes shopping with grandma at the mart

And helps her grandpa with some art

Paxton is five and so full of heart

And he is pretty good at art

He is rt

Austin is doing a one handed pushup

Trying to catch up

Logan is a teen and he likes games and television

He sees pretty good but someday he could have some trouble with his vision

McKenzie and Preston we don’t see very often

And even less since they have been ten.

With Colton and Raelyn we have fun galore

and hear the best stories and lore

Derrick, Taylor, Kristen, Autumn, Jake, Crystal, Emily, Brandon, Tara, Mary, Veronica, and Gracie are getting older and have little time in their life for old folks, who retired

Hope they all remember they are loved when they get tired.

Then there are those we never see and still we remember

They belong like the rest, they are a member❤

****

Haiku, “Japanese poem, 3 lines, 5, 7, 5 syllables per line. Often focusing on images of nature, simplicity intensity, directness of expression.”

The door is ajar

Learning so much from afar

The sun, moon and stars

****

Blowing snow white light

Glorious trees what a sight

Are sparkling so bright
