I have yet to find peace in a raging sea
where my vessel has been beaten
and battered across the oceans.
They say there is no light without the dark
but in the dark,
I can’t see the blood on my hands
or the bodies I’ve left behind me.
I sail now in different, uncharted waters
where the air is thick with salt
and the waves are unforgiving.
Yet even with the turning tides
I set a course for peace.
The violence that hangs in my wake,
stands to remind me of the quiet I hope for.
I am not harmless,
but I am tired.
There can be no peace without chaos
but by God,
How the chaos has taken a bite of my soul
and left me to scour this desolate wasteland
for a glimpse of hope on a broken horizon.
About the Creator
S.E. Sumpter
I’ve loved poetry for as long as I can remember. Personally, I believe as long as it makes you feel something, poetry can be anything. I’ve been published in an anthology, and have also self-published 2 poetry collections (on a third now!)
