Finding Balance in Life: Lowering Expectations, Embracing Change
Learning to Let Go and Live with Acceptance
The absence of excessive joy eliminates the potential for extreme sorrow. My biggest progress in recent years has been learning to "face reality." I’ve come to understand the limitations of being human and now believe that in most of life, we don’t need to try too hard; instead, we should lower our expectations.
I was deeply moved by the following insight:
"Strangers are often the ones who bring warmth and surprise because we have no expectations of them. On the other hand, those closest to us are the ones most likely to cause sadness and heartbreak because we love them."
In the adult world, it’s important not to expect too much from anyone and not to overestimate any relationship. When we lower our expectations, we begin to see that all encounters in life are gifts.
The only constant in this world is "change." We can only focus on what’s within our control—doing what needs to be done in the present moment. As for the external environment, it is beyond our grasp. When things don’t go as planned, there’s no point in fighting with ourselves.
Disappointments are finite, but hope is infinite. Don’t cling to specific people or situations for too long, and don’t push yourself too hard. Sometimes, leaving gaps in life allows the sunlight to shine through.
The only person we can truly rely on is ourselves. Let’s shift our expectations inward—expecting ourselves to find peace again and again, expecting ourselves to no longer fear loneliness. Life will always have its ups and downs, but I hope we can all learn to love ourselves a little more.
