The comfort in a warm cup of tea,
The feeling when you release a sneeze.
The solid weight of a book in your hands,
The relieved sigh of cancelled plans.
The wheezing after a good long laugh,
The satisfaction of stretching your back.
The peace you feel in a gentle breeze,
The melodious rustle of dancing trees.
The smell of barbeque on the 4th of July,
The children yelling, "It's mine, it's mine!"
The oil strains upon your shirt,
The damp scent of fresh plowed earth.
The sound of your key turning in the lock,
The joys of sliding around in socks.
The squeal of finding a new antique,
The inevitable end to every week.
The taste of a snowflake on your tongue,
The excitement when a concert's begun.
The smallness you feel at the ocean's shore,
The knowledge that there's so much more.
The fragrance of a bubble bath,
The adventure of walking an untread path.
The annoyance of learning a new instrument,
The many surprises of having kids.
The way a smile lights up a face,
The perseverance of running a race.
The sound of music filling a room,
The way I can't help looking at you.
The seduction of a warm, soft bed,
The assurance that there's life beyond death.
The fun in random pillow fights,
The hilarities of staying up all night.
The feeling of your hand in mine,
The fact our hearts are intertwined.
The unending, glorious passage of time,
The way the moon and sun both shine.
Home can mean many things, it's true,
Here I've shared a few with you,
But before we fully say adieu,
Tell me what "home" means to you...
About the Creator
M.J. Carlock
I find that words are powerful; regardless of their form, they carry influence over our lives, and we must wield their power with both wisdom and heart.
