Fierceness and Full Measure
A "The Sound of First Frost" Challenge Entry

Muted colors float across the land,
Dance along the hillside, looming 'neath
Winter’s creeping frost laden dew.
In the distance, the sun slowly rises,
Its rays reflecting a glistening beauty.
Your being warms at the sight:
Rippled colors unite into a flowing rhythm
Of life’s common day predictability and
The ever elusive flame of eternity;
Each breath steadies, evens into platitudes
Enveloped by the early morn's dew driven frost.
A triumphant symphony harkens into an
Enchanting song, beckoning all who hear:
Come hither and indulge, fill your cups,
Drink your fill of this fine frosty, bonny day,
Given freely, to be fancied by one and all.
*
As autumn’s light dims, fusing into winter's birth,
An awareness of treasures bestowed therein
Blossoms upon morning’s frost, spreading,
Coexisting with every beat of your heart:
A reminder life is captured of a sudden
By those poised and at the ready.
Nature is a force, a nexus, spinning, circling
All from which you are composed
And all for which you will be intended.
Your breath quickens, racing in the frosted air:
Brisk, exhilarating, and invigorating,
Your soul's energy is cleansed, renewed.
*
On the simple wooden table,
Adorned with the garden's freshly cut blooms,
A single cup rests while steam swirls and rises,
Its aroma mingling with the essence of flowers
Amidst the frost and fragrance of a newborn day:
Steeping, richly spiced tea further awaits,
Awakening your senses -
Orange, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves
Linger to tantalize, enticing tastebuds to oblivion.
Winter’s morn combines with freshly brewed tea,
Saturating and surrounding - one sip will be all it takes
To arrive at a newly induced precipice of sensation.
*
Outside, birds chirp a sweet serenade, adding
To the promise of impending, serene relaxation.
Soothing simplicity, woven from all the elements,
Alerts the mind, opens it to an array of possibilities.
Emboldened by the autumn’s lingering existence,
Wrapped in winter’s frosted dawn, senses soar while
Treasures unfold in the presence of tea, flowers, birds,
Sunlight, and winter’s lush carpeted, icy dew.
*
Alas, the essential essence of all senses mounts into
Unchartered pathways of enlightenment -
This is life, at hand and for the taking,
Reeling in senses borne on the first frost of winter,
Carrying a fierceness of breath and full measure.

What an ode to viewing a first frost of winter. Great work.
Sometimes it is as simple as breathing. Set aside your worries for a minute or an hour. Could you spare an entire day to awaken your senses to the ongoing miracle of existence? Wonderful poetry, Cindy! Proust awakened his childhood memories by dipping a cookie into tea. But you have brought the natural world to life in yours. It’s lovely to read someone who is unafraid to be.
