Fertile Microbiome

A poem about how both good and bad memories are important... and how planting good seeds leads to a good harvest

We can all remember a time when we were little

That one memory of when you accidently piddled

Or when you got in trouble in kindergarten because you couldn't stop fiddling

Of course we can remember the bad times

The embarrassing moments

But what stands out the most

Are those little snippets with family

Sometimes silent memories like mimes

The good getaways despite the forewarning bad omens

Like that time your cousin said they saw a ghost

Those risky decisions of jumping off cliffs into water or bombing hills on anything with wheels like it wasn't gambling

The first time your parents told you not to look into the sun

But still trying to see it for what it was anyways

The beach and the crashing waves

Being tumbled

Then learning to surf

Sometimes in the quiet in between you get a chance to look back and to dream

Harvest the crop of your memories

And to plant new seeds

Something joyous something fun

Planting seeds that could grow many ways

Even the bad memories pave the way

The weeds decay fertilising the soils for a new day

And much like the plants memories are interconnected via a spiralling branching network under the surface

Sometimes to see you you need be humbled

To keep that soil microbiome luscious and green

Sometimes when stressed it's like a thick haze

But you keep telling yourself there'll be better days

The field will grow anew when you seed it with purpose

I propose we all take a minute to reflect on the good times

Reflect on the bad times

Seperate the weeds from the grain

Burn the weeds and use the ash so that the new grain seeds may gain

Anew

Purpose

We work day in day out for the harvest

And all were left with are memories

And all we have are memories and all we can do with them is dream

Dream anew ... Breed the good crop and persue

Those better days come with the rain

And sometimes in the midst of something strange

I hear a rumbling in the distance

A storm to be weathered

And leave us with the strongest most tethered seeds

to plant NEW memories
