Fear Can Be An Impossible Deterrent

I hit a brick wall every time

Fear can be a hindrance at times

Stopping us from gaining our desires,

Unless we step out of our safety zones

Finding our courage is what is required.

***

I once dreamed of a better relationship

With my father, that elusive parent,

But I freeze when I pick up the phone

Seeing my fear is totally transparent.

***

Too much water under the bridge

Sadly, it’s definitely too late now,

My fear far too deeply ingrained

Face my fear, I wouldn’t know how.

***

Absentee and abandonment issues

Has deeply affected me in many ways,

I keep telling myself I’ll try harder

But suddenly the years are gone in days.

***

Fear is an impossible deterrent

And generally I can face my fears,

But where my father is concerned

My fears always turn into tears.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
