A Love Assailed

But our love tree refused to die Though attacked and broken without It continued to blossom and grow within In our heart spaces safely hidden From marauding destroyers seeking ruin The embers of hope keeping alive To revive the fire when it is time

Fate and destiny in the wings waiting Ensured our paths crossed when the time was ripened Again and again, throwing us together Unwittingly awakening the cry of battle In a prison willingly entered, you became my saving angel

Like a knight and fierce protector You fought doggedly for truth, justice, and right Placing yourself in the path of rampaging evil At unimaginable cost to life, limb, family, and loved ones Had we but known the cost of the battle We might have reneged and dropped the gauntlet

But would our love bond have ceased? Would our hearts deign to be apart? Could we have allowed injustice win? Or evil continue its pillaging rampage? Thankfully, allies, friends, co-conspirators, and helpers convened Fearlessly working to shield and protect

Hard and fierce the battle raged long Foes multiplied and rivals teemed Sometimes we fought together, sometimes apart Sometimes they aimed us at each other hoping that we part But our love bond pulsating ensured we remained true Through schemes, betrayals, threats, and hurts Our heart chords of love remained strong and taut
