My wife. I am thankful she still walks with me. - Photography by Author

Farewell

torn apart by the inevitable paths we have crossed

tears straining a heart shattered by our loss

promises were made, now torn in two

silent tears fall from my face

hearts adrift in empty space

once entangled, now lost

hearts now drifting

anchor unhooked

farewell

...

This was a wonderful challenge for me. I love it when I am pushed outside of my comfort zone. This poem did that for me. I have been married for twenty-two years, but before the success of that love there was lots of heartach and breakups. I am thankful I do not have to experience that anymore, but I am also thankful for prompts like this that get me to explore old feelings and what-ifs.

The image I used for this poem is one of my wife from early in our marriage taken under a bridge at a park in Brooklyn. I am so thankful for her, and that she has never walked away, but as you can see in this picture, even walking away from me, she is beautiful.
