Far away
Free verse for Aspen Marie’s First Prompt. A link to Mike singleton and Antoni De'Leons entry, because both of them showed me how it was done and both gave me confidence to join. Lots of love to you both and the lovely Aspen Marie 😘

I leave my mind behind to climb
Because it’s easier to leave the world behind
I see the people living dreams that died
I was blind
To the colours over the lines
Crossing my path
Was man on a bench
Another in the front
Closer to the lens
Was he afraid?
That this life would gain him
Did he stop to help
No he ran away
He walked a path already paved
His parents didn't leave him dazed
So I traced the lines of this man
With my unlearned pencil
I made a stamp
Come closer reader
Give me a hand
To pray into the clouds
This blue sky hurts
The trees behind him
Is the only thing not cursed
Rehearse these lines
Keep them not in disguise
Read them plenty more times
Not because they are good to the ears
But because you have a heart that cares
But my eyes cried tears that left him there
Oh yes I am a hypocrite
I had somewhere to be
Adventure awaits
Far far away…

Here’s a link to the challenge:
A short interruption of another picture I’ve taken. Coupled with a haiku. If I can manage it, or maybe a short word on what it says to me. Why I took it.

Hold these lovers close
They show how to be faithful
Don’t you say it’s gross

I love the blue and white on the top right. It’s such a nice contrast. These two put a smile on me and my husbands face. We took the same way on our way back, and guess what, they were still there!

I will link below two entries I’ve read and commented on. Mike Singleton who made me feel comfortable drawing. He showed us the way, he showed us how this challenge is done. I loved his drawing, how it brought out the child in me. How it was drawn with a cat in mind —any drawing is a drawing of the best kind, especially when it’s done in pencil. His cinquain was soft and inviting, a delicious read.
The lovely and talented Antoni De'Leon, I can’t even speak as I remember her words. Lovely!
I’ve included them with a little commentary because this is the first challenge by one of us, I am entering. For some reason they seemed more scary than the official Vocal challenges, and these two helped to build my confidence, so thank you both! Thank you Aspen for creating and hosting this challenge ♥️
Please join in with us, if you haven’t already ♥️🤗🙏🏽

Your honesty, clarity, and transparency really moved me as I read this poem. I could feel your emotions as it they were my own and that shook me - this is a new emotion I have experienced from reading something. I love your photo of the lovebirds and its accompanying haiku. Wonderful work, Caitlin!
I like how your words move between honesty and vulnerability while painting such vivid pictures.
Beautifully written--intriguing too! Not a "quick-glance and get it" but a "gonna go back and reread" type of poem. I like those 😊 Gonna check out the prompt as well.
What a neat challenge. I love those love birds that you captured and your train of thought! Nice work CC! 🫶🏾🩷🌸
Awww, Thanks so much Caitlin, jumping between challenges is a bummer...but doing my best...Your entry is so wonderful. Kind words are always welcome.
Another arrow for your bow, my friend. Very nice
Omgggg, that photo with the pigeons, that was absolutely wonderful! Loved your poem and Haiku! 😍😍😍😍😍
I’m in awe 🫢 Holy shitballs! This is so good!! “ Come closer reader Give me a hand To pray into the clouds This blue sky hurts” Ack! I could highlight all of it and it would be worth a comment per line. I bow to your talent, and I’m so proud of you for taking a chance on drawing and sharing photos. The intimacy of it is a gift!
Beautifully distant yet intimate—this poem stretches the heart across space, evoking longing and quiet reflection.
