Is it really you that I’m longing for
Or is something of the world
Thanks for killing my fantasy
Brought me back to reality
Now all there’s left to do is follow the plans you have for me
I never was a type of girl to be out in the streets
I guess that’s another way you protected me
Continue to help me see things differently
Sometimes I feel behind
You tell me not to compare their life to mine
But they live life so free
Sometimes I believe it’s the fear stopping me
Stopping me from achieving the things that I want and see
Is it the people around me that put this fear inside of me
This reality pains me
I’m not where I want to be
Can you make my fantasy a reality
It’s the thought of people judging me
And the possibility of turning their doubts into a reality (in not being as successful as I say I was going to be)
That makes me so unhappy
The more I try to prove their expectations wrong; the more I prove them right
The truth is I can’t blame nobody but me
That’s why I’m hurting
Why the tears from my eyes keep pouring
Escaping reality with a fantasy is delaying me
That’s why it feels like I’m ain’t growing
To get out of this cycle I look to you, because you are the key
The key to set me free

your poem is very beautiful and I understand what you say because sometimes we think that it is others with their judgments and expectations that stop us, but instead it is us who have to fight to make our dreams come true and this is not without difficulties and pain , I hope you will be able to make your dreams come true and turn your fantasy into reality 🧡
This touched my heart, and it's so darn relatable too. This poem is perfect in every way, I love the flow and the vulnerability. 'feeling behind' I am right there with you. 'And the possibility of turning their doubts into a reality (in not being as successful as I say I was going to be' this line was so powerful Emily, it had me deeply vibing with this poem because of how true it is, it is like you reached into our minds and took all the feelings we feel and cleverly put it into words.
