When I think about our changing planet,

My eyes begin to water.

I am overcome with emotion at the thought or mention of efforts to prevent further damage

And of damage that has already occurred.

Sometimes I wonder why I am struck so deeply

By things that are seemingly mundane.

I sob at the beauty and the pain of our world.

I now recognize this as love for our Mother Earth.

Reading a book about the climate crisis recently,

I found myself oozing with pride, sorrow, and joy

On almost every single page.

The verge of tears became the feeling of reading.

As my knowledge of our current predicament as a species grew,

I became increasingly overcome with the beauty of it all.

Now is an extraordinary time to be alive.

We have the marvelous privilege to decide the fate of life as we know it.
